SOA Basics 1

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

An old colleague and friend of mine called me the other day. She had worked at IONA several years ago, moved on into a different part of the software industry and is now back working in the "middleware" sector again.

She was wondering what all the fuss was about SOA? Was there something new? Could I explain the basics to her again just in case she missed something?

You see there are a couple of issues here: 1) it's not new, some of us have been talking about services and SOA for a long time - so long we're almost burned out talking about it and 2) it's amazing how much people forget or how ignorant some others are about the basics (not my friend).

Who is IPBabble

William Henry IP Babble is the personal blog of William Henry.

I have approx. 20 years experience in software development and distributed computing and hold a M.Sc from Dublin City University. I'm currently working in the office of CTO at Red Hat on the MRG product. This weblog is mine personally and is in no way funded by Red Hat. I will try to post independent views but understand that most likely I have a bias based on the influence of working with standards based middleware for over a decade. (See disclaimer below)
